Summary

  • Leverage Custom Audiences for Precision Targeting: Utilize the new Custom Audiences feature in ChatGPT Ads to enhance campaign targeting by including or excluding specific customer segments based on behavior, allowing for more efficient budget allocation and improved ROI.

  • Automate Audience Management with Singular Integration: Use Singular Audiences to automatically refresh and sync customer segments in real-time, ensuring consistent targeting definitions across platforms and enabling immediate adjustments based on user behavior, such as lapsed users or high-value customers.

  • Optimize Bidding Strategies: Implement bid adjustments in ChatGPT Ads to prioritize higher-value cohorts, enabling more aggressive bidding for top revenue segments while reducing costs for lower-intent audiences, thus maximizing campaign effectiveness and profitability.

ChatGPT Ads now supports Custom Audiences, which let you bring your own customer and prospect lists into campaign targeting. Singular allows your Audiences to connect directly, so the segments you already build from your attribution and event data can be used in ChatGPT Ads without anyone exporting a CSV or running a SQL query.

Retargeting with Custom Audiences in ChatGPT Ads just got easier

ChatGPT Ads gives you three ways to use an uploaded list:

  • Campaign inclusion. Delivery is limited to people in one or more selected audiences. Use it to reach known customers or a qualified prospect list.
  • Campaign exclusion. Delivery skips anyone in the selected audience. Use it to keep acquisition budget off people who already installed, already subscribed, or already bought this month.
  • Ad group bid adjustments. A bid multiplier between 0.1x and 10x raises or lowers the ad group’s maximum bid when the viewer matches a selected audience. Your highest-value cohort gets bid up. A low-intent cohort gets bid down. Eligibility does not change, only the price you are willing to pay.

Inclusion and bid adjustments require at least 25,000 matched users, and OpenAI recommends 100,000 or more. Exclusion audiences have no minimum, so a small suppression list works from day one.

What Singular Audiences’ delivers

The list is the hard part. Most teams keep their audience definitions in one place and their identifiers in another, then reconcile the two by hand every time a campaign changes.

Singular Audiences builds segments from the app event data already flowing into Singular through the SDK or server-to-server. You define a segment once using installs, sessions, event counts, revenue, device model, OS version, country, or attributed network, and Singular refreshes membership every hour. Set the rules once, point that segment at ChatGPT Ads and Singular updates who’s in the segment hourly.

The value that this brings:

  • Definitions stay consistent across channels. The same “paid users who have not opened the app in 30 days” segment goes to ChatGPT Ads and to every other network you distribute to. You are not maintaining one definition in Singular and a slightly different one in a spreadsheet.
  • Membership tracks behavior, not a snapshot. A user who converts today drops out of your acquisition exclusion list on the next refresh. A user who crosses your revenue threshold this week joins the high-value bid multiplier audience automatically based on your segment rules.
  • Spend and results land in the same report. ChatGPT Ads cost and performance data already flows into Singular through the data connector, and conversions flow back through the Conversions API. Adding audience distribution means the targeting input and the ROI output sit in one place.

Two integrations, both available now:

What you can do with Singular Audiences

  • Suppress recent purchasers from acquisition campaigns so you stop paying to reach people who already converted. Because exclusion has no size minimum, this works even for a narrow list.
  • Bid up your top revenue cohort. Build a segment of users above a revenue threshold in the last 90 days, attach a 2x multiplier at the ad group, and compete harder for the users who are actually worth more.
  • Win back lapsed users. Segment on last session date and event history, then run inclusion campaigns against that group.

Together, they close the loop: clean data in, clean signal out, all in one platform.

Limits worth knowing before you plan

Custom Audiences are not available for campaigns targeting the EEA or Switzerland. Personalized ads are not live in those markets yet, so audience targeting does not apply there even though ChatGPT Ads itself now runs across Europe.

Android audiences only for now. The integration sends Google Advertising ID (GAID).

How to set it up

  • In Singular, go to Audiences > Segments and create your segment. The first generation takes 24 hours.
  • Go to Audiences > Distributions and add OpenAI Ads (ChatGPT). In the Distributions grid, look for the OpenAI logo.
  • Enter your ChatGPT Ads account credentials.
  • Select the Android segments to send. iOS segments support is coming soon.
  • In ChatGPT Ads Manager, the audience appears under Tools > Audiences. Attach it to a campaign for inclusion or exclusion, or to an ad group for a bid multiplier.

It sends segments you build in Singular Audiences straight to ChatGPT Ads Custom Audiences. You don’t need to export a CSV or run a SQL query.

How can I use a Singular segment in ChatGPT Ads?

How often are my audiences updated?

Singular refreshes segment membership every hour. The first time a new segment is generated, it takes 24 hours.

Which platforms and identifiers are supported?

Android only for now, using the Google Advertising ID (GAID). iOS support is coming soon.

Where do I find the integration in Singular?

Go to Audiences > Distributions and add OpenAI Ads (ChatGPT). It has the OpenAI logo in the Distributions grid.

Where does the audience show up in ChatGPT Ads?

In ChatGPT Ads Manager under Tools > Audiences. From there, you can add it to a campaign for inclusion or exclusion, or to an ad group for a bid adjustment.

Do I need Singular Audiences to use this?

Yes. Talk to your Customer Success Manager about turning it on, or request a demo.
