Mobile marketing

What is mobile marketing?

Mobile marketing is a branch of marketing that focuses on reaching and engaging customers through mobile devices. The lion’s share of the industry, at least in terms of marketing expenditure, is aimed at encouraging and incentivizing mobile app downloads.

Mobile devices include smartphones, tablets, and other connected devices. Mobile marketing can take many different forms, such as SMS marketing, push notifications, and more, but brands’ main focus is reaching customers, users, or players in and through their mobile apps. That specific part of mobile marketing is typically called mobile user acquisition.

With the increasing number of people using mobile devices, mobile marketing has become an important way for businesses to reach their customers. As highlighted by Udonis:

What’s also important to note is that as of August 2022, 62% of web traffic came from mobile devices, not desktops. And we can expect that the number will keep on rising.

And, as we know, 70-80% of consumers’ on-device time is spent in mobile apps, including games and streaming media services.

Why is mobile marketing important?

As mentioned, mobile marketing is important because it allows businesses to reach their target audiences through a variety of channels, including SMS, MMM, and social media. Additionally, mobile marketing is a cost-effective way to reach potential customers, as it does not require a large budget to get started.

Additionally, when consumers download and install a brand’s app, that brand has the ability to share information, marketing, and resources with those consumers.

And of course in many cases a company’s mobile app is their main product, particularly in the case of mobile gaming companies, social media companies, and personal utility companies. In this case, mobile user acquisition is critical because it is essentially customer acquisition.

Mobile marketing vs. traditional marketing

Mobile marketing has a number of benefits over other marketing channels, namely that it is much more personal and immediate than traditional techniques.

For example, mobile marketing allows you to reach your customers where they already are, and when they are most likely to make a purchase or download an app. Mobile marketing is also known to be more interactive and engaging than traditional marketing techniques as you can in some cases target individuals with much more granularity.

Advantages of mobile marketing

The main advantages of mobile marketing are that it allows businesses to reach a larger audience with their message, it can be much more cost effective than traditional marketing methods, and it is more personal and interactive than other forms of marketing.

And, as mentioned above, when a company’s main product or service is delivered via an app, the company has no choice but to do mobile-focused marketing in order to drive new users, gamers, or customers.
